Porcelain veneers are thin, porcelain facings custom-made to fit precisely over your teeth. They are bonded to the front surface of teeth, and they look and feel like natural teeth. If you have gaps between your teeth or if you have teeth that are stained, cracked, chipped, crooked, or uneven, porcelain veneers may be an excellent option for you to improve the appearance of your smile.
Applied primarily to the front teeth, dental veneers provide a stunningly fresh look and feel to your teeth while maintaining your underlying tone and colour to create a natural looking smile.
Dental veneers are composed of a thin, shell-like layer of material that is placed on the front of the teeth. They are typically made from porcelain but can also be made from a plastic resin. The glass-like quality of porcelain makes it the preferred option, with its translucent characteristics effectively mimicking the natural tooth enamel. Porcelain veneers tend to resist stains better than their resin counterparts and have superior light-reflecting properties.
The process of applying veneers involves removing a small amount of each tooth’s outer enamel before bonding the veneers to the teeth. This is considered a minimally-invasive procedure and the entire process is completed over three office visits. The result is strong, naturally-looking teeth.
At Smile for Life we offer a variety of services, including a couple of options for veneers, such as Lumineers. Lumineers are a light-weight, quick alternative to conventional porcelain veneers and don’t require the removal of any tooth structure. See Smile For Life's Lumineers page for more details.
Porcelain veneers or thinner Lumineers are excellent options to enhance your smile, and both are minimally invasive procedures. We would be happy to help you decide between porcelain veneers or Lumineers. We also have a number of before and after photographs available in our office that show the results of both types of treatment. For more information or to make an appointment, contact us.
